Cure tartar and dental plaque the Ayurvedic way

A colorless and sticky substance is often seen growing around the gum line and is termed as dental plaque. This is made up of saliva and food particles. You can easily get rid of this problem by regular brushing, pulling and proper rinsing of your teeth. However, if it is left untreated for long, it may develop into tartar.

Tartar is crusty, heard and yellow. This can lead to bacteria and cavity formation if not treated timely. The best way to remove it is by going to a good dentist and asking him to scale the same. However, the most effortless and side effect less way of treating tartar and dental plaque is by using the secrets of Ayurveda.

What Ayurveda has to say?

According to Ayurvedic literature this condition is termed as Danta sharkara. It gets this unique name as the coating above the tooth assumes a granular shape like that of a sugar cube. As mentioned in Acharya Vegbhata, the blemish in the teeth is dried with the help of vata. Later, it takes the shape of thick coating like sugar cubes. In this way, it results to Danta sharkara.

Probable causes of Danta sharkara

Dental plaque can be caused due to various reasons. Some probable causes are

  • Smoking
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Forgetting to floss after each meal
  • Excess intake of sweet things like cookies, candy, potatoes, bread, corn, cereal, etc.
  •  Intake of excess amount of carbohydrate food

Treatment of tartar

Treatment of tartar can be done both clinically as well as using Ayurvedic medicines. The main aim of the treatment is, however, removal of the tartar without causing any harm to the root of the teeth. However, if you are looking forward to some home remedy, start proper tooth brushing regularly, indulge in oil pulling and oral rinsing regularly. This will prevent the formation of tartar.

Gum pain and swelling can be treated by detoxification and internal cleansing. Oral Ayurvedic medicines are used for this purpose. Some Ayurvedic components that are used for treating tartar are Triphala guggulu, Khadiradi vati, Gandhaka rasayana, Lavangadi vati, Kaishora guggulu and Arogyavardhini Vati. For gargling one can use Ayurvedic substances like Irimedadi taila, Kwhara taila along with salt and Saindhavadya taila. For brushing teeth regularly with Ayurvedic products it is good to use Bakula choorna, Dasankanti Choorna and Dashana samskar churna.

Some people have a grave misconception that tartar and plaque, protect the teeth from several injuries. However, the truth is that constant negligence of tartar might lead to tooth decay and other serious gum disease. So, follow the above information and take immediate steps.
